Community Centre - great news! The kitchen renovation is under way…to be done in phases - according to Page Miller (President). It’s being done in phases to accommodate events taking place there (such as on the 11th of Sept with the Yacht Club). There will be no Centre Monthly dinner in Oct…they’ll start in Nov-more next month

Garden Club – there have been 3 Board meetings over the summer for preparation of the ’08-’09 season. It              seems to be an exciting program -announcements will be forthcoming–but because the first Wed of the month is Sept 3rd (too close to Labor Day) it was decided to start the year with the Oct 1st meeting at the Comm. Centre at 10AM

Women’s Club will be having it’s first meeting Oct 15 (third Wed) at 10AM. There will be a cooking demonstration by a favorite caterer Harry Merrill: “Hor d’oeuvres for Easy Entertaining”. You’ll need to remember to bring your dues ($10) & ($10) for the new 2008 phone directory. The club is requesting that you bring a friend or neighbor to introduce our great club to. Also, on 10/31st they are having the second annual Flu Shot & Health Fair– more next month.

F I Friends of Music will have it first regular program Oct 19th with the 5 member band, The Chesnut Brass Company – a Grammy winning quintent… It will be 5PM at the Community Centre. The kick-off program with be Sept 14th 5 PM with the super-talented Dan McCormick (doing popular & old favorites) with piano & vocals (donations accepted). This year marks the 25th season for bringing quality musical entertainment to FI & the surrounding communities.

Audubon Club starts the year with a Pot Luck dinner Oct 23rd celebrating the busy turtle season. Also, our friend, Pete Richards is now President – & we are looking forward to a very active season. One program Pete explained is a 6 month study/survey: the Piping Plover Bird Study - in conjunction with the US Fish & Wild Life Service, & Hunting Island State Park. Four teams will check for the numbers of birds & the activity. It takes place at high tide for about an hour with each team conducting the survey 2x a month from Sept 08 to Feb ’09-or March when the birds will migrate to their northern breeding sites.
