The Fripp Covenants which will be coming up for your vote at the beginning of next year are tremendously important. They date back to 1961 when the Developer of the Fripp Island Resort executed that certain “Declaration of Restrictive Covenants & then updated them in 1974. This Declaration was to run for 25 years and be automatically extended for successive periods of 10 years which are now coming up in ’09. The new covenants are posted on the FIPOA website and I have read the 38 pages. This will be your chance to get rid of the ‘old, outdated’ provisions (which are always written by a developer as protection for itself) and are no longer needed as the island has become pretty much built-out. You can now have the opportunity to have a voice in the rules & regulations by voting to approve the changeover from the Fripp Club to the POA. Over the next few months you will be able to read in the Trawler some of the changes proposed and there is VERY SOUND reasoning for you to get involved in making a difference. Sometimes, getting people to vote is difficult but this time it is vital that enough votes are turned in to have a majority of homeowners.. (if you don’t vote, you will be counted as a “no.” & we’ll be back into the old outdated deal. For voting updates & instructions, see the Trawler.
