Fishing – Locally the shrimp, oyster and clam seasons all began earlier this month. We bought 5 lbs of local shrimp from Dopson’s on St Helena yesterday– they were the large, headless at $5.50/lb.& fresh. He said that during the week of high tides the shrimp were smaller & the water was muddy –PLUS the ocean was rough! On Rte 21 you’ll see his sign & just follow to his dock. SavAmNews reported 9/24 that “the coastal fishing action came to a crawl mid-month as spring tides pushed waters high into the marshes causing widespread muddy conditions.” Couple that with the NE & easterly winds to make inshore & offshore fishing poor (many red drum & sea trout were too small). But the Fall season is starting with trout & bass. You might want to post this in your rental homes regarding fishing Charters: George Tangalos (575-8169) has a 28’ ‘FULL TILT” boat which goes out of Fripp (holds up to 6). $480/half day for 4 people+$120hr thereafter (extra people @$75 ea). Also, Don Kohlmayer has a 17’ whaler @ 838-7088 (doing mostly half days) & Capt Eddy (838-3782) has ‘Glory Halleluiah’ which is 27’ long.
