Insurance: According to the Gazette 3/18, there is free software available to homeowners for household inventory. A few years ago, I looked at a very complicated software package which I couldn’t recommend. If you don’t have a list or photos of your Fripp home (& contents) this may be a good time (before the hurricane season starts) to get it going. The website is www.scinsnews.com., & you’ll need to ‘enroll.’ first. It sure would help if you had a complete list so you could get reimbursed by your ins company...if needed. The software is called Know Your Stuff Home Inventory & goes from room to room. It asks for details, and even pictures, serial or model #s, where & when the items were bought, & the costs. It stated, “While homeowners didn’t have to provide receipts, appraisals, or photos for items such as furniture or clothing, keeping receipts, having valuable items appraised & having an inventory helps adjusters resolve claims faster & helps homeowners get fully reimbursed….& you don’t necessarily need software to inventory their possessions-they can write the items & monetary values down on a legal pad, or create a video or photo file…& keep the lists outside of the house in a safe deposit box or an e-mail file (or at a relatives) so the records won’t be destroyed with the home.”
