Fishing- An article in the Island News 4/22 talked about the Wahoo Madness which was so interesting. They are one of the fastest fish in these waters with top speeds at 50 MPH! You need wire to bring them in – the 300 lb monofilament & 200 lb fluorocarbon lines won’t last. They are also one of the best fish to eat-especially grilled! The Bft Cobia season is one of the best in the country & ranks as one of the best places for Cobia in the world. They will start in offshore waters in mid April & peak in the Broad River in mid to late May. Water temps are rising fast now -& 68º will bring them in & they spawn at around 69º They head back out to sea and can be caught over structures throughout June & July. It is also a great tasting fish & grilled is best and blackened is good, too. Mid-month, the Savannah Now reported that near shore & inshore whiting have climbed to the top of the action list as well as sheepshead both offshore & at the artificial reefs plus inshore around the many bridges, docks & underwater obstructions.
