Loggerhead Turtles had a good nesting year. Hilton Head recorded a record 199 nests. Across SC, there were more 2 than 3,000 nests & GA had about 1500. Hunting State Park had 60, Harbor had 20, & Fripp had 35 (vs only 10 last year). The Audubon Club will be celebrating the turtle season Oct 23rd (see below). Each nest has an average of 120 eggs but not that many make it to maturity – when they can weigh up to 300 lbs & live to be 100 years old. Pretty soon the hatching season will be over. Thanks to all for “lights out.”
