Shrimp season started 5/22 with boats now allowed within the 3 mile off-shore waters. On our trip to the Ace Basin we got a close up look at about a dozen shrimp boats & Capt Ralph brought us close enough to watch the nets being emptied. Diesel fuel is over $4/gal now and they must catch at least 700 lbs/day to cover expenses. According to the Gazette 5/22, there were 3.6 Million lbs of shrimp brought in by SC trawlers in 2004 but only 1.5 Million pounds in 2007.
