On Sat, Oct 13th we took our grandsons to the Savannah area to the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography Open House which we mentioned in our last newsletter. It took about 4 hours just to get to see everything there-but with children 7 & 9 we didn’t spend as much time as we could have if they had been older & read everything thoroughly. The entrance had turtles, then we did the aquarium & education center. The highlights of the day for the kids were a) the remotely operated underwater vehicle (& Will Bootle got a Certificate of learning to operate it) and b) the R/V Savannah research boat. There were also microscopes at the Plankton World and a radio station & a shellfish laboratory. Everyone there was so cordial & helpful & there were many water stations & free bananas & oranges. Once the kids had visited 7 major “stops” & got their programs stampedat each stations, they were given a free nylon back pack. This is an annual event, with over 3000 attending this year. We highly recommend this for next October.
