Fripp Island fishing June 08
By Fripp Island Fishing

Fishing. According to Capt Goodison (from the Fripper), fishing about 7 miles out has been super great for cobia, drum & sea bass. Crabbing off our dock has been somewhat rewarding - for at least 1 dinner each week! On 6/19, the Bft Gazette had an article stating that DHEC issued warnings about eating King Mackerel longer than 39”, shark, & tilefish caught off the SC coast because of harmful levels of mercury contamination. DHEC sampled more than 2,000 fish. Speaking of contaminants- On 6/8, the Gazette again covered the San Francisco 53,000 gal oil spill (by a container ship) & it’s clean-up price tag of $60 Mil+. Seems the Hong Kong-based Regal Stone claims that the US gvt caused the spill by its “gross negligence & willful misconduct” by issuing a license to the captain who was “medically unfit & on a list of medications.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        June 12th was the Yacht Club trip to Bull Point. It was the first year I didn’t participate because Chuck had torn his calf muscle & has been getting about on crutches plus going to therapy for about 2-3x/wk. He gets ultra-sound & is bandaged but he still has considerable trouble (but getting better). He wasn’t up to this kind of fun yet. I heard that 90 members had an awesome time& the food was great, of course, (by Harold’s Catering). On Sept 19th is the YC Golf Tournament and on Oct 2nd is the Yacht Club boat trip to Beaufort.
